What is DuckAssist
DuckAssist is a new type of instant answer in search results designed to look similar to traditional SERP’s like Google, Yahoo, Bing.
DuckAssist is an artificial intelligence-powered feature of the DuckDuckGo search engine that aims to provide personalized search results to users. It works by analyzing the user’s search history and patterns to understand their preferences and provide more accurate results.
When a user types in a query, DuckAssist uses natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to understand the user’s intent and provide relevant results.
It takes into account the user’s previous search history, the context of the search, and other relevant factors to provide personalized recommendations and suggestions.
Its important to note that at this point, DuckAssist is not a chatbot. Instead, it shows an automatic answer when it recognizes a question it can answer.

Where is DuckAssist available & why Wikipedia?
DuckAssist is currently available in its browser & apps for iOS, Android, Mac & also on browser extensions of Chrome, Safari & Firefox, as per the announcement from DuckDuckGo’s CEO, Gabriel Weinberg. As of now, it is available only in English.
Weinberg says that this is just the beginning and the company is working on AI-generated features which will be rolled out in the coming months.
He explained that the company chose Wikipedia as it is a public resource with a transparent editorial process with constant updates and citing of sources being other reasons.
In the past, Gabriel Weinberg has spoken extensively about the importance of privacy in online searches and the need for more privacy-friendly alternatives to traditional search engines. For example, in a 2019 interview with CNBC, Weinberg stated, “Our vision is to be the search engine that doesn’t track you. We’re trying to make it as seamless as possible to use our privacy protection tools.”
It’s likely that Weinberg sees DuckAssist as a way to enhance the user experience while still maintaining a strong commitment to user privacy. By using AI algorithms to understand the user’s intent and provide relevant results, DuckAssist can improve the search experience while still protecting user data.
Did You Know?
Unlike traditional search engines like Google and Bing, DuckDuckGo does not track user activity or collect personal information to use for advertising or other purposes.
What are “Instant Answers” & “Bang” features?
The “Instant Answer” feature provides quick, concise answers to common questions. For example, if a user searches for “what is the capital of France?”, DuckAssist will provide the answer “Paris” at the top of the search results page, along with additional information such as a map of France and a link to the Wikipedia page for Paris.
The “Bang” feature allows users to search specific website by typing a shortcut code before their search query. For example, if a user types in “!wikipedia ducks,” DuckAssist will take them directly to the Wikipedia page for ducks.
Summary
DuckAssist is a great addition to DuckDuckGo. By combining personalized search results with a focus on user privacy, DuckAssist provides a compelling alternative to traditional search engines. Whether you’re looking for quick answers to common questions or in-depth research on a particular topic, DuckAssist can help you find what you’re looking for quickly and easily.
